# Swedish startup Halmos Labs joins Y Combinator to build automated biotech R&D

[Halmos Labs](https://halmoslabs.com/), a new biotech startup based in Lund in southern Sweden, has joined Y Combinator's fall 2026 batch, and thereby also secured $500K in first funding.

The company is building automated biotech R&D on the principles of validity and interpretabillity, [according to its YC profile page](https://www.ycombinator.com/companies/halmos-labs). That includes running research and simulations answering open questions ranging from wetlab experiment design to full cancer vaccine manufacturing.

The young founders, Mattias Akke and Linus von Ekensteen Löfgren, hold Master's degrees in Nanotechnology and Engineering Physics, and have previous experience from MIT, AstraZenica, and Danske Bank.

While Y Combinator and the startups' URL state Halmos Labs as the name, the website says "Halmos Bio". So the company's ultimate brand may not be fully settled yet.
