Ailit joins Y Combinator to replace diesel in rail with swappable batteries and Energy-as-a-Service
This news was covered in the daily PRO newsletter on October 12, 2026.
Ailit, a Stockholm-founded startup aiming to replace diesel in rail with swappable batteries and Energy-as-a-Service, announced this week that it is joining Y Combinator's fall batch. The company's participation in the Silicon Valley-based accelerator was first reported by Breakit on September 23.
Ailit has been operating in stealth since its inception last year, but finally seems to be ready for the greater spotlight. The company was founded by Christian Lind, former VC Luca Banderet (who holds an advisor role), and Emil Tagesson, and is focusing from the start on American freight rail – which according to the startup still runs on diesel.
Given the recent spike in and anxiety about Diesel prices, Ailit's launch is certainly coming timely.
Ailit's participation in Y Combinator is somewhat unusual, as the company already previously raised VC funding of at least SEK10M from SNÖ Ventures and one of the Norrsken funds.
Ailit is the fourth Sweden-founded startup selected for Y Combinator's fall 2026 batch. I wrote about the other ones, as well as two more based outside of Sweden but (co-) founded by Swedes, here.
