Mergers & acquisitions

• The assets of bankrupt Swedish battery maker Northvolt in Sweden and Germany have been acquired by US-based supermaterial applications company Lyten, which plans to restart the Swedish facilities in Skellefteå and Västerås immediately after the deal is finalized (English).

BuddyPro (Stockholm, field service management software) has been acquired by publicly traded Swedish investment company ANTCO in a reverse merger (English, Swedish).

Dework (Stockholm; web3-native project management with token payments, credentialing, bounties) has been acquired by US-based crypto startup Thrive Protocol (English).

Entric (Gothenburg, software solution for measuring and reporting air emissions from Swedish energy-producing boilers) has been acquired by Marathon Software, Stockholm-based investment firm specialized in niche software companies (English).

Accounting Software Scandinavia, a Stockholm-based startup which operates the AI accounting tools Lerry.ai and Lennart, has been acquired by publicly traded Växjö-based Saas company Briox for SEK18M in newly issued Briox shares (Swedish, machine translation).

Waltero (Lund; scalable solution for computer vision and asset management): SEK40M (€3.6M, $4.2M) from existing investors including Bank von Roll, Wealins, and Mats Leifland (Swedish / Di Digital paywall).

Flox (Stockholm, AI enabled technologies for wildlife management built on science): $1M seed funding round led by Unconventional Ventures (English).

Solva (Stockholm & San Francisco, auditable AI for insurance claims): $500K from Y Combinator, as the startup was accepted into the YC 2025 Summer batch. With this, Solva comes out of stealth (English). ➡️ First covered in PRO on August 4.

DanAds (Stockholm, self-serve and automation advertising technology): SEK5M (€450K, $520K) in a strategic investment from Sigma Software (Swedish, machine translation).

SonicFlora (Linköping, real-time plant health monitoring): SEK2.7M in pre-seed funding from Almi Invest, LiU Invest, and angel investors (Swedish, machine translation). ➡️ Startup first covered in PRO on January 27. Funding first covered in PRO on August 4.

VILOX (Helsingborg; technology company transforming how furniture and flooring are assembled): undisclosed amount led by angel investors Anders Moberg and Lars Ljungälv, for the global expansion (English).

Millentic, formerly scratx (Stockholm, data and automation platform for global commerce operations): undisclosed amount in an angel round, with participation form Goose Valley (English). ➡️ Funding first covered in PRO on July 4.

News from the Swedish startup & tech sector

• I've published the first monthly update to the Leaderboards featuring Sweden's most active VCs, and most active angel investors.

Comra AI, Stockholm-based AI-powered 3D visualization startup, has launched "Birdview", a tool that allows people to showcase their house in a 3D model, to give buyers a better understanding of the space, the surroundings, and the potential of the property (English). ➡️ Startup first covered in PRO in December 2024.

Sana, Stockholm-based provider of AI-powered knowledge tools for the enterprise, reached an ARR of SEK250M earlier this year and touts over 500 enterprise customers (Swedish / Di Digital paywall).

• Stefan Ytterborn, former founder and CEO of Swedish electric motorcycle startup CAKE, is building a new startup in the same space together with his sons, named Rebake (Swedish / Breakit paywall).

Soundtrap, Stockholm-based music-creation tool spun out from Spotify in 2023 after having been acquired by the audio streaming giant earlier, has turned profitable and reached positive cash flow during summer (English).

Controla, Stockholm-based cybersecurity startup, has relaunched as an "AI-powered cybersecurity tool that scans for risks, and helps fix them fast – with no IT team needed" (English). ➡️ Startup first covered in PRO in November 2023.

Turbotic, Stockholm-based provider of an AI assistant for business transformation, is launching what it calls "vibe automation": An AI-powered automation platform "that understands natural language, connects to any API, and even fixes itself when things break" (English).

Mana, Malmö-based startup which first developed a smart ice bath for end consumers, is launching its second product: a modular outdoor sauna unit (Swedish, machine translation). ➡️ Startup first covered in PRO on January 22.

PocketLaw, Stockholm-based all-in-one AI platform for legal teams, is arranging the "AI + Change Summit" in Stockholm on September 3, with speakers from AWS, Spotify, and Mistral AI, among others (English).

Spotify is increasing prices in several regions outside of the US, including Sweden (English, Swedish).

The applications for the 2025 edition of the För-orten startup competition are open (Swedish, machine translation).

Pinecone Ventures, Norway-based venture studio which launched in Sweden in early 2025, will take over Stockholm’s iconic tram line – from Norrmalmstorg to Waldemarsudde – for a pitch event. Ten founders will pitch their ideas, one stop each (English).

Hanna Andreen, CEO of Sebastian and Nina Siemiatkowski's publicly traded investment company Flat Capital, will be stepping down at the end of the year. The board will now initiate the process of recruiting a new CEO (English).

Wave Ventures, Nordic VC firm describing itself as "Europe’s largest VC investing in startups built by young entrepreneurs", is hiring a Marketing Lead in Stockholm (or Helsinki/Tallinn) (English).

Other interesting things from the startup/VC world & beyond

SpringWater is a new Lithuania-based operator-led investment firm, focused on acquiring and scaling founder-led SaaS businesses – and I am told they are also interested in Swedish companies.

Burn multiples for AI companies are higher than other sectors, suggesting low-cost capital could be fueling inefficient growth, according to Silicon Valley Bank's State of the Markets H2 2025 report (English).

• In the first half of this year, just 12 US venture firms raised more than 50% of the total value of capital (English).

Spotify co-founder and CEO Daniel Ek is the only Swede on Fortune's list of the world's 100 Most Powerful People in Business, ranking #69 (English).

The Swedish PM shared that he uses AI for second opinions, causing a debate (English, Swedish).

• The number of bankruptcies in Sweden in July this year was 26% lower than during the same month last year, suggesting a potential trend change (Swedish, machine translation).

• In July, 31 people died from drowning in Sweden – the highest number since 2018 (Swedish, machine translation).
