Mergers & acquisitions

  • Brickanta (Stockholm, agentic AI platform built for the work that moves construction projects forward, founded 2025) is "acquihiring" Alysa, a Stockholm-based startup founded in early 2026, which participated in the KTH Innovation Launch 22 S26 program, and was building AI for construction bids. One of Alysa's founders, Nayar Grinberg, is joining Brickanta (English, Swedish / Breakit paywall). This is Brickanta's second acquisition of that kind within a few months, following the company's $8M seed funding round led by Northzone announced in January. ℹ️ Company details added in July 2025 to the New Startup Database and Google Sheet.

Funding news

  • Now official: Lovable (Stockholm, AI web app builder, founded 2023): $400M in a Series C funding round at a $13.3B valuation, co-led by existing investor Menlo Ventures, and new investor Scaleup Europe Fund, managed by EQT. A few more new investors joined in, among them Balderton Capital. Many existing investors also participated (English). This round has been rumoured for a while. It follows the company's $330M Series B raised in December 2025 at a $6.6B valuation. 📝 No new ARR number has been released, though co-founder and CEO Anton Osika writes "it nearly tripled in 8 months", implying it should be close to $600M. The latest official milestone, $500M, was reported in June. ℹ️ Company & funding details page / Startup added on February 2, 2024 to the Startup Database and New Startups Google Sheet.
  • Aligned Bio (Lund, nanowire-assisted single-molecule detection platform, founded 2019): $3.6M from a mix of existing and new investors. The round was led by LMK, and saw participation from Almi Invest, LU Ventures, and STOAF, among others. The funding will be used for the commercialisation (English). Aligned Bio has previously raised at least SEK75M in equity funding. 📊 The company has not yet published its annual report for 2025. ℹ️ Company & funding details page

News from Swedish startups, the tech sector and VCs

  • Edgy, a Stockholm-based energy startup, has iterated its product since coming out of stealth in November last year. The company is now focusing on designing, building and operating so called microgrids on industrial sites. The promise to potential customers: "Power in months, no CAPEX, and a bill that keeps falling". Co-founder Javier Arroyo Molina tells me that Edgy will handle a project end-to-end, supported by the company's optimization software, which marks the building block of the microgrids. 📝 He also shares the he and his co-founder Federico Lombardi will start raising their first proper funding round, following initial backing from Antler last year. 📝 The two founders have backgrounds from Northvolt and Volvo Cars. ℹ️ Company details added in June 2025 to the Startup Database and New Startups Google Sheet. ➡️ Added to the Fundraising Database and Google Sheet
  • In April I covered a SEK2M funding raised by a Stockholm-based stealth mode startup named Clips. The company has still not officially launched, but the founders Ina Wong and Lukas Zetterberg have now revealed what they are building: the "last AI operating system modern real estate will ever need". On the LinkedIn page, Clips upcoming product is described as "agentic operating system that delivers property intelligence, automates prospecting, client matching, and relationship management, and helps brokers prioritize what matters every day". ℹ️ Company details update in the Startup Database and New Startups Google Sheet.
  • Sweden ranks #10 globally for AI-related funding in PitchBook's 2026 Global VC Ecosystem Rankings (English / PDF with 14 pages - see page 9):
  • Lukas Ingemarsson (LinkedIn), a Swede who just finished his Master in AI and Machine Learning at Linköping University, has joined a new San Francisco-based applied AI and product lab named Wajo as Founding Engineer. As far as I can see, Wajo has no other ties to Sweden.
  • Gothenburg Tech Week, Chalmers, Chalmers AI society and Chalmers Entrepreneurship Society will host a two day hackathon in Gothenburg on Sep 25-26. The winning teams will take the stage at Tech Blueprint during Gothenburg Tech Week, October 13 (English).

Other interesting things from the startup/VC world & beyond

  • There are three founder archetypes: Problem founder, Insight founder, and Vision founder (English).
  • Despite historic lows in public software multiples, each category has one name at a large premium to its peers (English).
  • Ahead of the upcoming Swedish elections, some parties are advocating for a "billionaire tax", which would include unrealised gains. This could have several negative effects on Sweden’s tech ecosystem and undermine the success that has been built over a long time, and that made particularly Stockholm an outlier in Europe, worries Wilhelm Nyström (Swedish, machine translation).
